Makeup Wars! Favorite DIY Beauty Hack

This week's Makeup Wars is all about DIY beauty hacks. Since a lot of us were snowed in last week, I wonder where this topic came from? We are talking about things you have at home that can double as fantastic beauty hacks.

My favorite? It's so easy, I feel like I'm copping out by even mentioning it. However, it truly is the best thing since sliced bread. What am I talking about? Coconut Oil!

It's better than almost anything else on the market and it can do anything. It's like the beauty equivalent of duct tape. While you can't make a wallet out of it, you can do this:

Here are my favorite uses for this magical oil:

Condition your hair:  It actually penetrates the hair shaft! It's one of the only oils that can do this.
Condition your cuticles: Put this on before you go to bed and wake up with better cuticles!
Moisturize your feet: Apply liberally to your feet and cover with socks.
Makeup Remover: Dissolves waterproof makeup in seconds!
Body Scrub: Add a bit of sugar to coconut oil and scrub your body!

Coconut oil is lightweight, can actually be absorbed into the skin and hair. Plus it's naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. And it costs less than $10 for an entire, large jar at your local health food stores.

  1. I keep reading about the wonders of coconut oil but the smell is so off-putting for me, I can't get past it. Though I had no idea you could shave your legs with it!

  5. My sister and I always talk about using coconut oil yet we've yet to do it. I'm worried that the scent will bother me so I need her to do it first. LOL

    1. I hear you about "coconut scent"- but one thing I've noticed about real coconut products is that the scent doesn't bother me- in fact, I love it and I am a total convert now! I use coconut oil for everything. It's a world of difference from fake coconut smell- it almost smells like browned butter- give it a chance, you never know- you might like it.

  6. I just tried coconut oil on my hair and it is a fantastic conditioner! I also love it for shaving and as a cleanser. And it's just yummy to cook with, too!

  7. My coconut oil has almost no scent or flavor. I too use coconut oil for many things. Last week I made a lip scrub using sugar and coconut oil. Safe and delicious! I will have to try it on my hair, thanks for the tips!
