This summer, new lippies are popping up everywhere you look. It's a little overwhelming, to say the least! Now that most of the collections are out and I've had time to play with more lipsticks than I could possibly wear, I've narrowed it down to my four, only slightly similar, favorites.
Bite Amuse Bouche in Sake, $26.00
Initially this looks like a dusty mauve, but as light hits the pigments from different angles, pinker flecks pop through, making a normally ho-hum everyday color come alive.
Not while I'd actually consider eating the perfect bullet if I was trapped in a car by Cujo or flying sharks, but I'm delighted to know that the ingredients in Bite lipstick are all food grade and totally edible, should the situation arise. Each one is made by hand, blended with 12 oils to create a luxe, silky, hydrating lip. This line is for those who really love lipstick. While I wish I could rock Chai, a true 90's brown, Sake wakes up my face and plays up blue eyes beautifully.
Urban Decay Vice in Whip, $17.00
This looks almost clear, with a peachy metallic tint that only pops in the right light.
There are so many colors to choose from (Trance and Psycho Killer need to get in my cart, too!), you won't have a problem finding a color that looks different from the rest of your makeup bag. The new formula is creamy and loaded with color. The shimmers, like Whip, tend to drag across my lips when applied but then melt into extraordinary creaminess that lasts. Whip encapsulates an innocence that reminds me of days spent happy and smiling, rollerskating at the beach. And oddly, the song Boys of Summer.
BHue Liquid Matte Lipstick in Berry Fuchsia, $18.00
This is a matte bright mauve with a barely-there satin finish. This shade is that perfect, bright, purply-mauve you think you can never pull off. Do you know the one I mean? This could be your signature color.
BHue is a newbie to me and doesn't have the shelf space of the other brands I mentioned. I love their matte lippies because they are gorgeously pigmented, don't dry out my lips and wear amazingly well (if you need something to survive Netflix + Chill, this is your lip). Berry Hue manages to be both a subtle, but opaque shade and really bright at the same time. Sometimes when I wear this, it strikes me as an everyday color. Other times, it twists slightly more purple and carries my look on its own (ok, I add mascara, too).
Clinique Pop™ Lacquer Lip Colour + Primer in Sugar Pop, $18.00
This is a more mature version of baby pink. It's super sweet, semi-sheer and very long lasting.
These have been out for a long time, but I still wear them constantly. This is another liquid lip line that promises high shine instead of a matte finish. I love the applicator, which is just slightly fluffier than your average doe foot. It's unbelievably creamy for a liquid formulation and some shades aren't entirely opaque. Sugar Pop is a perfect, pinky nude with lots of shine. Bonus! You'll get a few hours of wear, which is rare for a shade this light.
Agree or disagree? Do you have a signature color? (I know! How can you choose one color only?) Tell me all about it!
