As the summer comes to close, it's time to update your fall routine. It's almost that time to lay off the bronzer and work the skincare for the most flawless face you can put forward. The technology in beauty products has been hard at work over the summer--getting better, working harder and giving flawless face--all while you've been relaxing by the pool. Here is what you'll need to update your look and routine for fall.
Update Your Foundation:
Foundations have changed since last spring. Newer, lighter, double-duty versions are cropping up everywhere; mixing skincare with real coverage. I'm not talking about a BB Cream, I'm talking about traditional foundation getting a makeover. In heavy rotation on my vanity are the following foundations:
BareSkin by bareMinerals is a really light feeling bi-phase formula. You only need a tiny bit, so don't over do it. If you apply too much, it will feel greasy. I have dry skin and think it's amazing. You will want to use the brush, if you can swing it, it's worth it. If you are oilier, you may want to try a new mattifying foundation, like LANCÔME Teint Idole Ultra 24H. Try it for $29.00.
Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide is a bi-phase foundation that makes the skin look flawless while your skin feels naked. Try it for $48.00.
LANCÔME Teint Idole Ultra 24H is a beautiful full-coverage, mattifying foundation that provides really long wear without the shine. Teint Idole gives a velvet finish without a heavy application. This foundation covers well, is available in a wide variety of colors and looks amazing on the skin. I'm not sure about 24-hour wear, but it gives an easy eight hours without many signs of wear. Try it for $45.50.
Update Your Shadow Palette:
Unless you are a palette hoarder like me, you may not have updated since the holidays last year. This fall, it's key to mix textures within a subtle palette. While science hasn't had a heavy hand in this category, new shadows and textures are everywhere. The LORAC Pro2 Palette ($42.00) does this flawlessly. I also really like Stila's Eyes Are The Window palettes ($49.00), which offer warm and cool versions of the nudes and one palette of brights. Or make your own palette with Make Up For Ever's new Artist Shadows. They take a little getting used to, but wow are they pretty. (And wear flawlessly until you take them off.)
Update Your Lips:
Get out of that rut! Baby Pink is lovely, but not every day. If you've been wearing the same color for more than a month, you need to switch it up! Sephora is full of lip hybrids right now- liquid lipstick, glossy lipsticks and lip and cheek colors--it's the perfect time to try out a new color. Looking for lip inspiration? Check out this post where more than twenty bloggers weighed in with their favorites. Don't want to spend a fortune? Try one of the new Makeup Academy's formulations available at CVS/Pharmacy. They offer a full lipstick, Liquid Velvet Lipsticks, Power Pouts (chubby sticks), Lip Stains, Sheer and Intense Glosses. So many new formulas to try! They retail for from $5.00 to $12.00, pending sales and club savings.
Update Your Hair:
Technology is really changing where hair is concerned. Living Proof is truly living on the edge right now. Their Restore line reverses the signs of damaged hair, for reals. I've been using the Restore Instant Repairing Treatment, Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask Treatment and it's pretty amazing. After two uses my very bleached hair (especially the side with my bangs) was a hot mess. It's now like hair again. Really pretty, almost commercial-worthy hair. I'm gobsmacked. Products retail between $28.00 and $50.00.
Have fine hair and just need a little extra moisture? Dove just released Oxygen Moisture Leave In Foam, a mousse that acts as a leave in conditioner. It's perfect for fine hair. All you need is a little bit of mousse and your hair looks healthier and shinier! Bouncy hair and more shine is yours, instantly. Try it for $5.99.
Update Your Skin:
It's time to start undoing the damage you did over the summer (please wear an SPF!). Again, let the technology work to your benefit.
If you need to fade sunspots, try Epionce. While they have several lines that truly work, they've just reformulated their hyperpigmentation products. Now they are supercharged and full of pigment reducing super powers! I'm using it right now (I'll post the results when I've completed the process.) It won't hurt your skin or leave you itchy or red like some other products. My skin has been sensitive lately and this hasn't bothered in the least! Products retail between $54.00 and $136.00
The skin under the eyes needs some serious TLC once you hit 25. The more you can protect that area, the less damage you'll yearn to reverse. Korres Wild Rose Face and Eye Serum is the perfect choice for reducing fine lines and protecting the delicate skin around the eyes. And you can use it on the rest of your face, keeping your routine streamlined. This seems to work faster than most other products. I'm really impressed by how quickly this works! Try it for $45.00.
Lierac's Magnificent line promises to reduce fine lines by reducing and preventing glycoxidation, the destruction of the proteins that make the skin smooth and supple. If the kids made you crazy this summer and you need a little extra help, this might be just what you need.
Want to be on the cutting edge of skincare? Braver than most? Try Venox from Beverly Hills, MD Cosmoceuticals. It's synthetic snake venom proteins that can act like a topical botox. Sounds crazy, right? According to the company, here is how it works. Much like Botox, Venox smoothes skin by hindering the muscle contractions that create lines and creases - without the injection. Four powerful ingredients make this possible:
Oils are my favorite way to get results fast. Caudalie now offers an overnight treatment, Caudalie Polyphenol c15 Overnight Detox Oil, that not only offers up their exclusive stabilized Grape-seed Polyphenols, but also includes a stabilized Vitamin C. This powerful cocktail detoxes the skin overnight and gives you rested, fresh, hydrated and brighter skin upon waking. Grab it for $52.
I've been wanting to really up my skincare game lately and what all of my blogger friends are buzzing about is the new Tria Age-Defying Laser. Several of my in-the-know amigos keep telling me that if I really want to change the appearance of my skin at home, this is the way to go. I'm fine with home lasers...now I just need it to go on sale. If you've tried this, please tell me what you thought. I've tried other lasers, peels and home products, but not the Tria. It's not cheap, but neither is spending loads of money month after month and not always seeing the big results. Try it yourself for $495.
Are you brave enough to change or routine (or try synthetic snake venom)? How will you switch it up for the fall? Tell me all about it! (Really. I want to know!)
