Makeup Wars: Best Beauty Products For Winter 2016

The colder months may be cozy but not always as comfy, especially when you've got dry or sensitive skin. This week, Makeup Wars is serving up the must-have items to look and feel "vacation radiant" even when "the hawk is out."*

Fake It First:

Use a creamy concealer that gives a good glow. Try Laura Mercier Candle Glow Concealer and Highlighter ($32.00) to wake up your eyes and perk up your face.

Make sure your foundation matches your neck. And unless you're still tan, you'll probably need to lighten that foundation. Add a few drops of Bravon's Luminous Skin Perfecting Foundation in Alabaster ($29.00) to your existing shade and make your own perfect match. It's not a bright white, so the change to your current shade is more forgiving (ie: it's easier!).

Add a little radiance to counteract all of that climate controlled hot air. It Cosmetics Je Ne Sais Quoi Complexion Perfection ($42.00) palette gives you everything you need to brighten your complexion without looking overdone.

Call me crazy, but I'm pressing pause on my own matte lip obsession because WINTER IS  COMING. Creamy, rich colors are everything I'm thinking about. Clinique Pop Lacquer Lip Color ($18.50) is the perfect, cushy liquid lip gloss that feels sooo good I want them all. My fave is Love Pop, if you're curious.

For The Body:

Start with a really hydrating body wash, like Dove Body Wash Deep Moisture ($17.78) (& save with this Amazon coupon!)

Try shaving your legs with Tree Hut Bare Moisturizing Shave Oil ($11.99) or Creamo Moisturizing Shave Cream ($6.99)to stop further irritation in its tracks.

Treat your skin to a lotion treatment in the shower; think of it like a conditioner for your skin that leaves you feeling incredibly soft and smooth. Try Nivea In-Shower Nourishing Body Lotion ($4.99).

Can't get enough? Try a body lotion with active ingredients that ensure the moisture dives deeply into the layers of your skin. Try Amlactin Cerapuetic ($11.99) to help settle seriously dry skin.

For The Face:

Use a face oil day and night to help feed your skin the omegas it needs to look plump and pretty. I love Pixi By Petra Rose Oil Blend ($24.00).

BareMinerals Butter Drench ($38.00) is one of the only moisturizers that actually quenches my skin. When I use this on dry skin, the difference is night and day.

Exuviance Performance Peel ($77.00) will help your skin to turn over, revealing younger looking skin without going through that yucky flaking stage.

Still need more? Try the Shiseido Ibuki Beauty Sleeping Mask ($40.00) to wake up looking refreshed, smooth and supple. New to sleeping masks? Never fear! Just think of it as a heavy-duty night cream.

Fresh is still my gold standard for lip care and now is the best time to grab a Fresh set and save! Check out the Fresh Sugar Lip Spree and get enough to carry you through the year ($37.00)!

For The Hair:

Darshana is the most dramatically hydrating line I've found. Use the oil as a pre-shampoo treatment ($18.00/$38.00) and wash and condition with their signature products ($24 each). The results are truly remarkable!

Try to avoid over-washing your hair to keep static and frizz at bay. Keep your style fresh for longer by using a Shower/Treatment cap by All Caps ($52.00). No style is too big or too small for this ultra-comfy shower cap. Not only will you never have forehead marks, your hair won't crease and the cap is specially designed to give each person a fantastic fit.

A hair oil is a given during winter months and my favorite daily hair oil right now is Madam CJ Walker's Scent and Shine Brassica Seed Oil ($26.00). The grapeseed oil-based treatment is hearty enough to tame frizzy hair, but not so greasy it overpowers medium-thick to thick hair.

Still need a weekly treatment? While I've only used it twice, I'm planning on buying more Amika Triple RX Mask  ($38.00)--it definitely helped hydrate, smooth and control my very dry hair!

If you haven't already heard about the Steam Iron that treats hair with every use, it might be time to upgrade your flat iron. It's not inexpensive, but wow is it worth it.

* it means this.  My college roomie 'Nessa, at Temple U, used to say this all the time and it took me a minute to figure out what she meant. :-)
