I've been using OttLite crafting lamps in my makeup nook ever since I took over that spare little "room" in my house for makeup. The OttLites give you natural lighting that makes color look true. It's the best way to tell if your foundation matches and if your blush is the right amount. They make your skin look brighter, without casting a yellow light on you the way many bathroom and standard lamps do. That often results in your makeup not looking quite right. If you've ever said to yourself, "My foundation looks so odd. I swear I looked fine when I left the house,", that's because of bad lighting.
Finding the right lighting is actually kind of hard to do. I prefer natural light and to have all of my color temperatures match so everything is consistent. Too complicated? I also don't have a huge amount of space in my nook for lights. It's more like a cockpit for makeup application than a luxurious spare room. So when I got the chance to check out the OttLite Dual Sided Mirror, I squealed with delight.
This mirror comes with 2 OttLites on either side of a standard mirror and, when you flip it over, a magnifying mirror. It's perfect for dressing areas, dorm rooms and vanities. Plus, it's available in a variety of colors, including this adorable blue and brown combo. You won't need to worry about competing color temperatures of light bulbs making your makeup look good in some light and wonky in others. Your makeup will never look more true than when you use an OttLite. This is fantastic!
Want to try it for yourself? I have one to give away! See below for how to enter. And remember, US ONLY, please. Sorry UK, Israel and my dear friend Martje. Not my rules. I can't promise the color of the mirror you will get either, as I'm not the one picking it out and sending it. Either way, it's awesome, so you are going to love it! I applied an early generation powder illuminator one morning, and noticed that I got lots of admiring glances on my way to work. When I looked at myself in the mirror on my desk I looked as if I had talcum powder on my face! I need this mirror... :)
I let my niece do my makeup she wouldn't let me look until she was done lol I looked like a clown worst mistake ever..Ps the make up must have been permanent marker b/c it wouldn't come off easily lol
my worst makeup mistake would be applying makeup in bad lighting then walking around outside with crazy dark makeup that wasn't properly blended. So embarrassing!
I wore huge black pointy drawn in eyebrows all through high school. I used a wet n' wild eye pencil which i burned with a lighter to melt it and proceeded to glop it onto my brows.
I have very thin lips and I used to overdraw the lipline (outside my natural lipline). I saw a pic of myself and immediately threw away all my lipliners and dark lipsticks. :(
My worst mistake is having parts of my face empty. The lighting in both my bathrooms is the worst! I still can't figure out how I manage to have empty spots. But I'd LOVE to try this mirror, hopefully it will fix that issue! Thanks for the chance!!
My worst new makeup mistake is wearing lip color on my teeth. I love the new BE Pretty Amazing lippie but I need to learn a new technique for applying it. It always looks fine and properly on my lips at first but somehow it migrates to my teeth. This summer I have twice been told I have lipstick on my teeth. Once was at a fancy party after I had been having what I thought was a charming and animated conversation with people I had just met, and once was just after I finished giving a 1.5 hour presentation. Not the way I want to present myself! :(
My second worst makeup mistake which is also an ongoing issue is not realizing I need to blend/redo my eye shadow. I am so nearsighted that I cannot see what I am doing very well in the dimly lit bathroom mirror with my glasses off. So, I usually apply everything, then put my glasses on and check, then take them off and remedy any gross errors. I use a pale nude color on my lids and a dark outer vee/crease color that matches my eye liner, and if I do it right it is a fabulous look, but if I don't place my vee/crease color well, it can look amateurish at best. The Ott light might help me out a lot with this one!!
My worst make-up mistake is when I was about 13 and I tried to use a maroon colored liquid eye liner on the inner rim of my bottom eyelid and it leaked into my eyeball! True story.
the lighting in my bathroom stinks!! i am setting up my vanity and this mirror would look perfect on it :) i think one of my worst mistakes happened recently. i have gotten into the habit of wearing false lashes. i put the left one on and i got distracted and i walked out of the house without putting the right one on- whoops!!! LOL!! i also don't put mascara on the top lashes because with the Ardell demi-pixie lashes, if i put on mascara it looks like i have "drag queen" lashes :) i visited 2 clients before someone told me. you would think as my being a make-up artist on the side i would know better, but nope!! thanks for the great give away... it would also be a great belated birthday present!!
My worst makeup mistake was when I didn't blend my foundation because I couldn't see in the mirror very well. It wasn't until I looked in a mirror with better lighting that I saw how uneven the foundation was.
The worst make-up mistake I made was in jr. high. I somehow forgot to put foundation on my forehead and did not know it until someone asked me if I had put any on!! Talk about being embarrassed.

My worst makeup mistake was using too light of concealer and ending up w/ raccoon eyes.
