Beauty Shorts: Hey, Ya'll! I'm Back with New Lips, Powders and Retinols You Need To Know About.

I've been to Houston, Detroit, Atlanta and back again and have very little makeup news to share. I might have had more, had I not gotten sick in a bizarre and unholy way that left me lying on the bathroom floor of the Houston Children's Museum for an hour, while Loxy (who's my husband, not my cat, btw) paced and worried. I did manage to find a few things you should know about, or avoid, in between wondering who I was and listening to Law & Order: SVU for twelve straight hours. Do I know how to take a vacation or what?

Milani Lip Flash isn't a new product, but is perfect for fall and its bright lip trend. I can't get enough bright red and corals and Milani has some that are worthy of checking out.

(Flash Light is on top, Hot Flash is on the bottom.)

While these aren't quite as opaque and full-bodied as the very similar looking Urban Decay Lip Pencils I can't stop raving about, they are about $13 cheaper. That makes them a fantastic option worth checking out.

I don't know why I plunked down the $13 for this next one, especially since I've been pretty vocal about how I feel about the brand in general. But it looked so intriguing, I had to try it. See, it's a powder that is kind of self-adjusting, with a brush and just a little bit of color. And it just looked kind of neat. So I'm probably not going to surprise anyone when I say that I tried Almay's Smart Shade Smart Balance Pressed Powder and it was a huge fail. Not only did it provide no coverage, it provided nothing other than a slight chalky appearance that makes me look older than I am.

Finally, I'm happy to report that Neutrogena's New Rapid Wrinkle Repair SPF 30 with SA is lovely. It's an elegant formula that smells light and fresh, and it doesn't go on the skin looking greasy or white. It's become downright hard to find something under $20 that doesn't involve rubbing in loads of white SPF (my biggest pet peeve with SPF) and this formula delivers. According to the company, this product "features a unique combination of Retinol SA, Glucose Complex and Hyaluronic Acid. Rapid Wrinkle Repair Moisturizer moisturizes and renews the look of skin throughout the day and helps to smooth wrinkles fast and diminish the look of age spots. This super charged formula is combined with UVA/UVB SPF 30 for daily sun protection." According to my dermatologist, Dr. Noelle Sherber, via InStyle, this formula "Most people can only tolerate prescription-strength retinols several times a week",  with a dose of hyaluronic acid to improve hydration and lessen irritation, "this can be used nightly, delivering more rapid results."

I love the evening version of this as well. It's definitely worth checking out! What are you loving right now? Haul anything note worthy lately?

I bought everything in this post with my own debit card.

I was interested in those UD pencils a ton. I'll have to give the Milani ones a try :)

  4. I wish Milani wasn't so hard to find in my little town. I really, really like the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle repair too--it didn't get rid of my wrinkles, but it sure made my skin pretty, even and glowing!
