People always say that all liners are made in the same factory (sometimes true!) and that all skincare is the same (the farthest thing from the truth!). Since I spend so much time researching what's new and noteworthy, I've figured out where to splurge and when to save.
Drugstore pencil, pen and gel liners by L'OREAL are the best. Still too pricey? Try liners by Sleek. Those never budge. However, liners from Mally Beauty are some of my all time favorites. I'll spend the money for Mally.
I've seen more and more lipsticks coming in around $50.00 and I don't get it. Lipsticks from Rimmel, L'OREAL and Maybelline are always top notch. Lipglosses, on the other hand, are better as a splurge. Buxom and Mally make the best lip glosses. They make lips look juicy, younger and the color wears longer. Grab lip pencils from NYX. There is no need to spend more on a lip liner (these are like socks to me--I lose more of them than I actually use).
I splurge for foundations and concealers, although you don't have to. My favorite foundations right now belong to It Cosmetics, Make Up For Ever and Stila. Sure, L'OREAL's True Match is fantastic, as is their Lumi collection. If you can splurge here, do it
Almost always splurge on skincare, especially if you are over 30. If the product does not get rinsed off immediately, splurge. How much you splurge is up to you. The sky is the limit with skincare!
If I could buy anything right now, I'd buy Phytomer. The formulas are exquisite -- especially the Expertise Age Contour Intense Youth Eye Cream. From the second you apply the eye cream, eyes are lifted, slightly firmed and smoothed out. The Pionniere XMF White gives you a glow from within that is hard to replicate. Finally, the Phytomer Rosee Soin Radiance Oil leaves the skin feeling so soft and looking so ethereal, your skin will sing.
Willing to splurge but not spend all of your rent? The new Skinsorials Line from Bare Minerals is luxe to the nth degree. The Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion serum is heavenly and I can't be without it. I've already told you how much I love the Butter Drench Moisturizer. This line is all about keeping your skin healthy. You are allowed to have expression lines. You are allowed to have deep wrinkles. But you can't have unhealthy skin. The Skinsorials Line nails healthy, supple skin. Please try it! I love it.
If you are younger or have no skincare concerns, Olay and Aveeno are very nice lines and as long as you pick the product that addresses your needs, you can't go wrong.
Got a little left over skincare cash? Get a facial whenever you can. It's a brilliant step towards keeping your skin in top form. A good facial is always splurge worthy!
Your hair is your crowning glory. Spend money on the cut. If you can't afford to get your hair cut by a good stylist every six weeks, visit a nice salon when you want to change your style or annually, whichever happens first. After your drool-worthy cut, take lots of photos and book and appointment with a junior stylist who can follow the shape and lines of your existing cut.
If you have processed or aging hair, you'll want to consider spending money on products that are formulated to protect your hair. I've just started using a new line of hair care from StrivectinHAIR that was created to make hair stronger while looking shiny and nourished. I'm hoping it can get me one step closer to restoring my hair to pre-bleached status. Obliphica Professional is a brand I trust to help really keep my hair healthy. I try so many brands, but Obliphica is who I keep returning to. If you have natural, healthy hair, grab a formula from the drugstore by Nuance or Marc Anthony. I'm never disappointed with their formulas!
At the end of the day, splurge on products that treat, heal or help your body. The fancy makeup palettes and lippies are lovely, but if you have to spend less in one arena, my beloved makeup would get cut.
When do you splurge and when do you save? How do you decide? Are your decisions fueled by your purse strings alone or do you consider what's best for YOU? I'm curious!
