The key to getting that flawless, glowy skin? It's using the right products for the right reasons. Think all concealers are the same? Like shoes, you need a few concealers to to curate the perfect wardrobe. Not all concealers are equal, after all! Picking the right concealer for the job is key. And it's not as complicated as you think.
I've got really dry skin, so not all concealers work as well on me. I've also got fine lines and I hate it when anything settles in for the day. It's a constant battle. Skin that's been plumped with hydrating products is the first step to getting that juicy, healthy glow. But what about concealing under eye circles? Blemishes? Dark spots? Highlighting?
Check out my concealer wardrobe and see how yours stacks up. Remember, a little goes a long way. This is all about a light touch, a beauty blending sponge and building the perfect canvas for your makeup. The good news? Unlike jeans, you only need to hit one store to get everything you need for a flawless concealer wardrobe. Ulta Beauty has you covered!
If you've got redness or blemishes...
Apply the concealer with a flat brush. Tap the product on to the area with the brush and then gently blend by tapping your finger on the outer edges of the blemish. Next, dot on a setting powder. Your blemish is as good as gone!
I love Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer ($42) and It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer ($24).
If you've got dark circles...
Be sure to use a concealer with a touch of salmon (for fair skin tones) or yellow (for deeper skin tones). You aren't highlighting here, so gently apply a small amount of the salmon/yellow concealer directly on to the darker spots. Forget applying in a triangle! Just focus on your dark circles. Blend by tapping the skin gently with your finger. If you need more coverage, apply a small amount of concealer in the same shade as your skintone under your eyes. Gently pat this into place, without disturbing the previous concealer. Set very lightly with a setting powder.
Becca Cosmetics Undereye Brightening Corrector ($29) is the absolute, holy grail, best of the best for this (if the color works for your skintone).
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Corrector ($28) is my go to under eye concealer to use over the Becca. It's really hydrating and contains skincare to help keep fine lines at bay. Plus the coverage is very natural and wears perfectly.
Erase Paste by Benefit ($26) is also fantastic for covering dark circles if need more than a little bit of help.
Coupling that with It Cosmetics Eyelift In a Tube ($29) will give you the look of a full 8 hours even if you got nada!
Too much coverage and not enough hydration and skincare? Bare Minerals bareSkin Complete Coverage Serum Concealer ($20) is the perfect blend of skincare and concealer in one.
If you've got dark spots or hyperpigmentation....
This is the bane of my existence. Sunscreen wasn't this much of a thing when I was little and now I'm paying the price. Sunspots are not easy to cover, so you'll want to reach for a concealer with major skills. Build the coverage in small amounts, so it blends in with your foundation perfectly. Use a small pencil brush to dab on concealer, applying it only to the dark spots.
Dermablend Quick Fix Concealer ($25) was made to hide dark spots or other intense skin flaws perfectly, without highlighting the other signs of aging.
Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing Cream ($32) will cover almost anything, while giving you a flawless finish. It feels a little dry and tacky when applied, but when it melts into the skin, an entire other finish takes over. (ps- always wear a sunscreen!)
If you want to highlight (or contour)....
All you need for a perfectly natural highligher is a light concealer a few shades brighter than your actual skintone. The key is to find one that feels as light as a feather so it won't gather in fine lines or look cakey.
I find the Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil ($20) makes highlighting super easy. Just a few dots, a quick blend and you already look more awake and lifted!
And while it's not exactly a highlighter or a concealer, Well Rested Face and Eye Brightener from Bare Minerals ($22) somehow manages to highlight without looking like you've done anything. It's the perfect way to look gloriously au naturel.
