Makeup Wars: Must Have Palettes

It's palette season! Just like last year, I'm having a hard time picking just one or three. I will never be able to answer that age-old question of "how much eye shadow do you really need?" Until  the formulas and colors and finishes stop changing, I can't stop drooling over the palettes.

Here are my favorites of what is out right now.

I just picked up the 20 Shades of Baked Laura Geller collection. The shades are shite without a primer. With a primer, it's like when they go full technicolor in the Wizard of Oz. Trust me. They are like watercolors for your eyes. Sheer, but pigmented pretty colors. These are perhaps a touch dryer than the larger baked shadows, but when you add a primer (the Spackle works best and I'm not just saying that) the colors come alive.

I swooned over the Urban Decay Vice 3 and went back and forth several times. I finally picked it up and love it, especially for the mini-tablet case that comes with. The shades are pigmented and fresh. There is nothing not to love.

Speaking of UD, I've been using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics more than I thought I might. It's perfect for weekend casual when you want to look fierce without trying. I'm surprised how much I'm using it.

I'm still loving my Make Up For Ever Artist Palette. The shadows really take a bit of getting used to (you push the pigment on the brush and pull it across your lid). This collection is a great way to see if the new formula works for you or makes you bonkers.

Finally, Stila launched several palettes two months ago and I'm still using Spirit often. I almost never use shadow singles at this point and this palette is really great for a multitude of really pretty, simple looks. And if you don't love the colors in the one I picked out, there are three others to try.

(I Love Color on top. Loving Life below.)

I would be remiss if I didn't mention that Mally Beauty just launched two other palettes as a follow up to her In the Buff #1 palette. Both the Loving Life and the I Love Color palettes have bright, fun colors that you aren't seeing much of in the Sephora palette world, like shimmering robin's egg blue.
