Makeup Wars: How To Get The Loveliest Lips In All The Land

Purchased by Me Sent For Review Affiliate links

This edition of Makeup Wars is all about perfecting your pucker in the winter months. Dry skin is a year round problem for me and my lips (and cuticles) are the first ones to suffer. Here are my go-to treatment to keep my lips in perfect kissing condition.

My go-to products involve diligence. Nothing is going to get your lips back into shape with one use. It's important to care for your lips as you would your skin for the best results.

Use a lip scrub like Sara Happ's weekly to remove dead skin. If you don't have any pre-made lip scrub laying around, never fear. Instead, apply a little bit of Vaseline to your lips. Gently exfoliate them with a toothbrush. Wipe off the excess and apply a little oil or lip balm. The key is to be gentle. You don't want to inflame or damage the lips; the goal is to gently remove the flaky bits.

During the day, I try to use a hydrating lip color, which isn't hard to find. However, if I find myself outside for long periods of time, a lip balm with staying power is a must. Yes To Carrots makes fantastic lip balms in a variety of choices, including heavily colored lip balms, and they won't break the bank. If you haven't tried any of Fresh's Sugar Tinted Lip Balms, you are missing out. While the colors don't last forever, they do make your lips feel like a super star.

At night, I like to apply Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil. It's a luxe purchase, but it works wonders overnight, thanks to its rich oil blend, botanicals and vitamins.

  2. I wish the Hourglass weren't so expensive. I bet it does a terrific job. I forgot about the Sarah Happ, I used that a long time ago.

  6. I used the Hourglass and liked it, but to tell the truth, the only thing that has worked to give me soft lips in the dry desert where I live is Aquaphor.
