Stila's NEW Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow

Stila cosmetics recently launched a new very reflective shadow, Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow,  that definitely makes a statement. These shadows are unlike anything else on the market, messier than any other shadow I've tried and make me wonder if they are safe for long term use.

I have to start by saying that the shadows are beautiful. You can wear them different ways, like sheered out and smooth or more opaque and chunkier (yes, shadows can be chunky!). Either way, they last for more than eight hours and never crease. But you what weirds me out about them?

They are moist. I know, "moist" is one of the creepiest words in the language. Creep ranking aside, these shadows are moist. It's the only tester at Sephora I honestly have ever hesitated to put my finger in. People abuse testers and since this comes with a liquid primer, I'm certain people have dumped in the liquid primer, taking the shadows from moist to full on wet. And since it starts out feeling moist, is it going to sour or turn into something fishy over time? I wasn't sure if these were beautiful shadows or a science project in the making.

That didn't stop me from picking up Metallic Dusty Rose shade and one called Vintage Black Gold. They are gorgeous.

Metallic Dusty Rose is a gorgeous, metallic nude that shines as if your skin was infused with a mirror. If you are fair like me, it adds a hint of color too. Dare I say, it might be too shiny for work.

Vintage Black Gold is gorgeous and gives beautiful smoky eye. This is probably my favorite color in the collection.

When you purchase a color, here is what comes with it.

Stila's NEW Magnificent Metals Foil Finish Eye Shadow

You get a mixing tray, the liquid primer and the shadow. Here is how it works. You scoop out a tiny amount of the shadow. I've been using closed tweezers as a scoop. You mix that shadow with one drop, the tiniest drop you can eke out of the dropper, with the shadow. More liquid, less shadow makes a sheer color and less liquid, more shadow makes a more opaque color. You can also apply it straight to your eyes for an all out diamond-encrusted textured look.

The colors are mesmerizing. The wear is fantastic. The textures are unlike any other shadow on the market. Don't stick your own fingers in the testers. Instead, pick up your favorite color and play mixologist at your vanity. If you've picked one up and created your own look, share your look on the Facebook page! I would love to see what you've created!

  1. I tried these at Sephora last week- I was really entranced by them, as the colors were just so neat and pretty. I tried on the emerald green wow and WOW was it gorgeous. But I got some on my fingers and then I went to Nordstrom and got green glitter on some merchandise. :S

    1. They don't transfer on your eyes, but I was washing glitter off of my arm and anything near it for hours. I LOVE Vintage Black Gold. But I don't know what to think about shadow that is perpetually moist.

  2. Does it dry down on your eyes? I haven't gotten a feel for what they would be like yet but a few colors like Titanium and Black Gold do look interesting.

  3. Marsha - the shadows dry down completely on the eye. Thank goodness they don't stay wet!

  4. I got Kitten last week. My Sephora was only carrying a few colors. I haven't tried it out yet, but if I like the one I have I see a few more I want! :)

    1. I LOVE kitten. I think it was the first Stila shadow I bought way back when. I have it in a million different versions!

  5. They all look beautiful, but the Dusty Rose and the Emerald one really caught my eye! $32 is pretty steep, so I'd probably have to decide on just one, lol. Is there alot or any fall out during the day from wearing these? I have the Stila Jewel palette and they are lovely, but by the end of the day, my cheeks are full of glitter! :[ ~Thanks!

  6. I just bought the Dusty Rose. I was hesitant at first because of the price, but I absolutely love it! Would definately reccommend. It can go on as subtle or as loud as you choose and stays all day!
