If anyone amasses a lot of products, it's beauty bloggers. This week's Makeup Wars is all about storage. My collection has now grown to needing two rooms - my beauty nook and my photo studio. Before we dive too deeply into this, I should point out that Loxy and I share a bathroom, so I created a little space in our bedroom I affectionately call our nook. This space is where I do my hair and makeup each morning. My nook is for current items and my photo studio is for items I'm not using NOW, but aren't quite ready to give away. And yes, I give away about a 20 gallon tupperware storage box full of products per month to friends, shelters and people who are in the right place at the right time.
Back in 2010, this is what my makeup nook looked like on a really good day. I outgrew that really fast and one of my closest friends, The Mouth, offered to have her husband build me a storage system. While I couldn't believe the generosity of the offer, they came over THAT DAY and rebuilt my nook. I'm still blown away by their kindness and that was BEFORE they came over to nail down some loose roofing at the start of a hurricane. (It was already windy and seconds from raining!) Everyone should be so lucky to have just one good friend like that.
Back to the storage. The Mouth and her husband built me as much shelving as the area could hold and a desk to get ready. I now have baskets for each type of makeup and a much larger desk for spreading out and getting ready. Shown above are all of my baskets, and palettes, plus my machinist chest of mineral makeup.
Above is the desk where I get ready each morning. I put on a filter on it called "Prettyizer" to distract you from how messy I am. Yes, that is basically the things I'm trying now. (And I know where everything is. Don't call Hoarders on me yet.) Plus a tripod in case I feel the need to do any more FOTD quickie tutorials.
I found a "wine basket" (I guess that is what you'd call it) at a discount store. It holds the curling irons I'm currently using. My old storage bins? They've moved into the photo studio and are now almost full.
I think the only rational solution left is to move to a bigger house.
How do you store your makeup? Give me some ideas, please. And in the meantime, check out other ideas from my fellow comrades in Makeup Wars by clicking the tiles below.
