UNTIL LAST WEEK.
I just spotted the new L'OREAL Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipgloss at my CVS. They look and feel very much like the YSL, but at less than 1/3 of the price! This looks like a gloss and applies with the same applicator. The L'OREAL formula is slightly thicker than the YSL formula, and is also not as weightless as the YSL. If you have tried the YSL, you'll notice a difference. If you are new to this type of lip color, you'll never know what you're missing!
Now there are some differences that a true connoisseur is going to notice. The L'OREAL is slightly stickier and a little less "film"-like. If the stickiness bothers you, licking your lips a little will make it the opposite of sticky.
This formula is also a tiny bit on the drying side compared to the YSL, which isn't drying or hydrating. So you are going to want to give your lips a little extra attention at night. The formula does not bother me, and I have dry lips, but I have read that others found it slightly drying.
My first purchase was Infinite Fuchsia, a beautiful berry-like shade. Pinks make my peach-lovin' heart nervous. I just don't wear them often, but based on the trends, pink is the upcoming shade for lips to live for, so I'm testing the waters.
I also picked up Everlasting Caramel and Lilac Everafter to see how different colors looked and wore. I have to say, the lighter colors don't do much to pack a very pigmented pout. I'd skip those, but go crazy with the brighter colors! Everlasting Caramel and Infinite Fuchsia give me great color. Lilac Everafter leaves little to be desired, especially if you are hoping for a true lilac.
Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lipgloss is a great substitute (provided you want BRIGHT) and with the coupons you'll get as part of the Beauty Club at CVS/Pharmacy, you'll eventually save big!
