Makeup Wars: Valentine's Day Look

This edition of Makeup Wars pits Valentine’s Day look against Valentine’s Day look. Many moons ago, for science, I took a poll on Facebook to ask guys if they prefer a classic red lip on a date or a simple gloss or lip stick. The reactions were split 50/50, which helped no one. So I asked Loxy (my husband) what look he preferred.

Feeling tricked, he answered, “I always think you’re pretty.” Not getting that I was looking for a real answer, I kept prodding. He finally said, “remember that boudoir look you did? I liked that.” Perfect. But then he added, “I don’t mean that palette you wrote about, I mean that photo shoot you did.”

Oh. Yeah. That. So last year, I did a pin up shoot for fun. It turns out, I’m a terrible retro model. But if he liked the look, than that look shall be my Valentine’s Day choice. This means thick, shaped brows, wide cat eye liner, peachy cheeks and red, red lips.

Here is what I used:

Diorskin Nude Skin Glowing Foundation in Ivory: This foundation gives you amazing skin. Dewy, fresh, perfect. Similar to what you see in the ads, but without the extreme airbrushing and the looking like Natalie Portman.

Kat Von D Everlasting Face Shaper Blush in Wish: Yup. I still love this.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl: This adds a high wattage gleam wherever you apply it.

Lise Watier Havana Bronzer: This is great on the hollows of your cheekbones. Or, in my case, it helps fake where those hollows should be.

Eye Shadow: I used two of the lighter colors from the Too Faced Naked Eyes Palette to crease a serious crease.

Addiction NV Line Up Stay Put Cream Liner in Emo: This liner will stay in place until I take it off. It’s thick and easy to shape the perfect line you are looking for.

Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Mascara with Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Rocket: I used Rocket as the base and top coat and added the Too Faced nylon fibers to create faux fake lashes.

Mally Beauty: Warm Red Perfect Red Lip: I love this lipstick. It’s such a perfect red and it doesn’t move.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Lip Gloss in Wet Cranberry: This red is still fabulous. Although adding it to the Mally does make things get a bit messy if you aren’t careful. So make sure the gloss wears off during dinner, so any after dinner activities aren’t permanently stained red.

  1. Pinup makeup is the only look that my boyfriend has said "I like how that looks" rather than "I see you are wearing makeup. You really can't go wrong with a cat eye and red lipstick.

    1. Ha! Thank you. You'll notice you are only seeing my face in one picture. I'm not good at posing with my body. At all.

  4. That is sexy. You look so great in red lips.
Speaking of husbands - I used the LMdB Nouvelle Vague kaleidoscope differently on each eye (way differently) and mine never said a word.

  5. Both pics are great but I really like the one w/bangs! You look adorable. I am MOST impressed that your husband used the word 'palette' and, apparently, correctly!!! What a guy!
